Mother's Rights and Father's Rights?
At Evan Taylor Law Office, PLLC we are committed to the principle that a child needs both parents. The mother should be the mother and the father should be the father and the child should have have a meaningful relationship with both parents. Not only is this our philosophy, but it is the law in Oklahoma. Although many may make a big deal out of father's rights or mother's rights, the law has always been in Oklahoma that the court should be concerned with the child's right to be protected, loved, and cared for in a manner that provides for the child's best interets.
Joint Custody
Many people want to have joint custody of their children, but what does this mean? Generally the law says that parents who are able to work together in a spirit of cooperation may share in the legal decision-making for their children. This includes decisions about where a child goes to school, what church he attends, what summer camps he goes to, and any other big or small decision about your child's life.
Joint Custody is often confused with shared-parenting or the physical custody schedule with the children. Joint Custody does not affect the amount of child support nor does it affect how much time each parent spends with the child. These issues are decided separately, and one can have a sole custody order wherein one parent may have about half of then time with the child from week to week.
